Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra

This phone is 6.9 inches in length, the largest of the three. 

This model has a 108-megapixel camera with 10X hybrid optic zoom and up to 100X Super Resolution Zoom. 

The S20 Ultra has an image sensor that is set at 1/1.33”, which is about 2.9 times that of the Galaxy S10.

Of course, summer wouldn’t be the same without snapping a few shots of your favourite sunset, enjoying good times with friends or seeing the kids playing happily. Your phone will be the one thing that will always be with you but there are increasing reports about how the heat can affect your phone’s performance. If you’ve ever noticed that your phone doesn’t seem to work as well during the heat then there could be a few reasons why.

Processing Problems

Your phone doesn’t have access to a fan or a sunhat so it has no way of keeping itself cool, this can really affect performance. All phones have processors in them which are the brains behind making everything work. As the processor heats up so does how it’s able to perform, the hotter it gets the more it struggles.

Battery Life

Both cold and hot weather can affect the performance of your battery but getting it too hot may lead to permanent damage. Batteries work by the chemicals within them reacting together to make electricity, and this produces heat. Add in the hot temperatures on your summer holidays (or England if we’re lucky) and the heat really begins to rise. If you notice your phone is getting hotter than normal then you need to take action and quick! The best thing to do is to turn the phone off and leave it in a cool place until it’s back to normal temperature, removing the case can help with this process. Never be tempted though to try and accelerate this process by putting it in the fridge or freezer. Rapid temperature changes can be just as bad and if your phone is in the freezer then this could create condensation which then gets trapped in it. 

Quick Tips

• If your phone is getting hotter then leave it to cool down somewhere shady
• Avoid leaving your phone in direct sunlight or in hot places such as under duvets or in the car
• Don’t use powerful apps for long periods of time, such as games these create lots of heat
• Don’t use your phone as a GPS in a hot car as this really eats up battery power

1. Clean up!

If you’re constantly on your smartphone, the screen can easily become smudged and dirty. It might seem obvious, but before you start taking pictures make sure there are no fingerprints or grease marks over your camera. A good quality screen cloth can soon clean things up!

Simply adjusting your brightness can be the difference between a good picture and a great picture. Set the brightness by tapping your screen in camera mode and swiping up or down.

3. Go panoramic

If you’re taking pictures of landscapes, you can capture breathtaking shots by using the panorama mode on your camera. It can also be a fun and different way to capture your friends. Begin your panorama and every time you move, stop and have someone in the picture move (but still in shot). Keep doing this and you can have infinite fun!

4. Focus

Most smartphones will automatically focus on whatever’s in the foreground of your shot. To change where you want the focus, simply tap your screen in camera mode to ensure your subject is captured as clearly as possible.

5. Test it out

We have put together a list of some common issues that you might be able to fix yourself at home!

My phone isn’t charging correctly

If your phone no longer chargers correctly then this tip is for you! Like many others, you might protect your phone as much as possible with a screen protector and a case but often this won’t protect the charging port and headphone jack.

If your charger doesn’t feel like it fits into the bottom of your phone like it used to then there may be a build up of fluff and lint from your pocket. A really easy way to check this is to get a paperclip of a pin and very gently try to disturb anything in there that shouldn’t be. If you have never done this then you might be surprised at the amount of fluff that comes out! Just remember, every phone’s charging port is delicate so take your time and even watch a few how to videos on youtube before beginning!

If after trying this tip you are still having issues with charging it is likely that you need a new charging port! We replace charging ports on a range of devices so get in touch and book an appointment today to get your device looked at.

My phone takes ages to load apps or games!

No matter what phone you have slow loading times can be really frustrating!

On some older devices such as the iPhone 5 there isn’t much you can do, these devices are old and just can’t keep up with today’s latest gadgets. That being said, there are some things you can do so don’t give up just yet!  

If your phone is taking longer than usual to load things then it may be because the memory is full. This may not sound like it would affect your phone’s performance but if it’s running at max capacity it’s constantly working over time.

The best way to free up space on your phone is to go through any old images or duplicate images and get rid of the ones you don’t want. If you don’t want to get rid of any of your images you can always transfer them to your computer so that you never lose them! Any apps you haven’t used for months can also be deleted (and if you ever need them again you can always re-download them).

With your phone’s memory freed up, you should hopefully notice a difference!

My battery life is rubbish!

The more phones can do the more they use their battery. Gone are the days you could charge your phone on Sunday and not need to worry about plugging it in for the next few days!

If your phone’s battery is draining faster than normal then you may have lots of apps running in the background without you even knowing! Any apps that use location services can use a sizeable chunk of your charge. Head to your apps in the settings and check which apps are using location, you’ll find many that use it but actually don’t need it! On Samsung phones you can even see which apps are draining your battery and how much they have used, you can then choose to “Sleep” the apps to help save usage.

I’m constantly trying to free up memory on my phone

Sorry iPhone users but this tip only works for phones that take SD memory cards!

If you find yourself constantly getting “Memory Full” notifications then you will need to get yourself a Micro SD card. On most Android phones there is a slot to add extra storage and where your videos and images save. To free up space on your phone add an SD card and tell the device to save all images and videos to the SD card and not the phones internal memory. Not only will this mean that your phone’s memory is less cluttered but it can also make it easier to transfer your photos to a laptop or computer.
