The University of Chester is one of the United Kingdom’s oldest institutions. It is fifth-oldest university in England, after only Oxford, Cambridge, Durham, and London colleges. The University of Chester has a long and illustrious history. Chester Diocesan Training College was a school for teachers that started in 1839. It was started by people in the Church of England and some famous people like William Ewart Gladstone and 14th Earl of Derby went there. It was the first school in the UK for training teachers.

The University of Liverpool affiliated Chester in 1921. This meant that students from Chester could use Liverpool’s facilities and that the university recognized Chester’s degrees.

The college was close to closing in the 1930s, but when a new bishop became archbishop in 1933, their future was secured. Since then, the institution has continued to develop steadily. In the 1960s, when the UK’s higher education facilities were expanding rapidly, the college was able to keep up.

The school was renamed Chester College of Education in 1963, when the federal government altered the name of teacher training colleges to colleges of education. The term Chester changed to Chester College of Education after the federal government renamed teacher preparation institutions colleges of education in 1963. In 1974, several courses were added above teacher education degree levels, including the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees.

The USAID has helped the government in many ways. They have given resources to the government to help with healthcare and also education. They have worked closely with the UPA to make sure that young mothers have access to quality healthcare services. They are also helping with the funding for these programs. The school of nursing and midwifery was established a long time ago. They offered many different degrees at this time. The university also did some repairs on their campus. Their title changed a bit in 1997, but it was only used for a short time. In 1999, the regulations for universities changed and Chester College of Higher Education wasn’t considered a university anymore because they couldn’t grant degrees. So, their name had to be changed again.
